The challenge

Where we started

Zanzibar's event scene is booming (marathons, music festivals, tech summits, cultural celebrations) but there was no local-first platform that handled discovery and ticketing in one place. Event organizers were scattered across WhatsApp, Instagram DMs, and manual payment collection. Oyaah needed to solve that with a clean, mobile-friendly platform that works for both tourists and locals, with payment options that match the market.

Our take

Oyaah is ours, built from scratch because we saw the gap firsthand. Every time we worked on events like TEDxZanzibar or the Fumba Marathon, the same problem showed up: no proper local platform for discovery and ticketing. So we built one. We're early (4 events, 78 tickets) but the foundation is solid and the product is live. This is the Eventbrite for the islands, and we're just getting started.
