Permaculture Design Company (PDC) is a Zanzibar-based firm founded by Franko Goehse and Bernadette Kirsch that advocates, designs, and implements sustainable human settlements in harmony with nature. Operating since 2014, PDC has shaped the green infrastructure of Fumba Town, Africa's first permaculture town, and delivered landscape design for luxury clients including The Residence Zanzibar, Aqua Beach Lodge, The Rock Restaurant, Kizikula Boutique Hotel, and Spice Island Resort, with projects expanding to Dakar, Senegal. We handle ongoing website maintenance and social media management to keep their digital presence aligned with their growing impact.

The challenge
Where we started
PDC's work speaks for itself on the ground: lush food forests, composted coral rock turned into thriving gardens, youth training programmes. But translating that physical impact into a compelling digital narrative requires consistent content, platform management, and a website that stays current as the company expands across East Africa and into West Africa. They needed a digital partner who understands sustainability and can keep up with a company that's always building something new.

Our take
PDC is doing some of the most meaningful work on this island: turning coral rock into food forests, training youth through Fursa Kijani, and greening everything from 5-star resorts to Africa's first permaculture town. Our job is to make sure the digital side keeps pace with what's happening on the ground. Website stays clean, social stays active, and the story of #togetherwearegreener keeps reaching the people who need to hear it.
